Haven Vets - our History

Haven Veterinary Surgeons (formerly known as Shipley and Son) was established during the 1880's becoming one of the largest Veterinary practices in the area today.

Mr. W. Shipley retired from the practice in 1992. Mr. Gabri joined Mr. Livie and Mr. Higginson, as a partner, in 1995. Mr. Higginson retired in 2003. The name was changed to Haven Veterinary Surgeons in 1995.

Due to increasing demand the practice decided and planned their move to much larger premises. This took place during December 2001.

Once at the current premises at Queen Annes Road in Great Yarmouth, they expanded the number of consulting rooms from 2 at Steam Mill Lane to 5. On site there are 2 fully equipped operating theatres with state of the art equipment. There is also laboratory for in-house diagnostics where blood samples can be analysed, and a separate radiography suite. Electrocardiograph (ECG), Ultrasound and Endoscopy were added at a later date.

We have a strong commitment to continuing professional training (CPD) to ensure we provide up-to-date treatments and investigations of illness for our patients. We pride ourselves on our client, as well as patient, care and are also great believers in preventative healthcare for your pet. We would be happy
to book a guided tour of our facilities for you to have a look behind the scenes.

From staff numbers totalling 5 when Mr. Livie joined the Practice in 1981, the practice now has a total of 34 staff. There are 2 Directors/Veterinary Surgeons, a Practice Manager and 6 Associate Veterinary Surgeons. There is a Nursing team of 10, consisting of 5 Veterinary Nurses, 3 Student Veterinary Nurses and 2 General Nursing Assistants. We have a 12 strong Reception team and an Administration team of 3.

The Practice is involved with many charities, attends the Greyhound race meetings and also attends the RSPCA Clinic twice weekly.
